Revival Roofing’s Hail Damage Inspection Process
At Revival Roofing, we follow a specific process for our hail damage inspection service. This allows us to provide our customers with the information they need to make the best decision for their homes. Here’s a brief explanation of our process:
Step 1: Checking the Soft Metals on the Home
When looking for hail damage the first place to start is the soft metals on the home, i.e. gutters, window screens, and metal roof vents. The indentations on the metal show what size hail hit the house, an important factor in determining potential damage to the roof. As a general rule damaging hail starts at 1 ½ inches, anything smaller is not likely to cause damage to your roofing shingle.
Step 2: Inspecting the Hip, Ridge, and Field Shingles
Next, we get on the roof to inspect the hip and ridge shingles. Hail damage will appear on these shingles first before they appear on the field shingles. Then, we move to the field shingles covering most of the roof. We are not only looking for missing granules where the hail hit, but also for breaks in the asphalt shingle matting that prevents the shingle from shedding water. A break in the shingle matting will feel soft like a bruise on a piece of fruit.
Step 3: Consistency
The next variable we look at is consistency, how many damaged shingles are on the roof. If you are on the edges of the storm you may have only had a few large pieces of damaging hail mixed in with small harmless pea-sized hail. In this instance, you would only need repairs and would not need to file a claim to insurance. Generally, insurance companies don’t pay for five damaged shingles on a roof, and in reality, you don’t need a brand new roof if you have very light damage. If you do have severe damage and need replacement it is very easy to see in photos taken on the roof. Contrary to what you always hear, you do not need to be an expert to see hail damage to the roof. If your roof has severe damage to the point it needs to be replaced it is easy to see in photos. You DO need to be an expert in climbing and walking roofs to get the photos of the damage and that is where Revival Roofing can help.

After the inspection, we give an honest assessment of the damage to your home. The owner of the company, Dan Lemrise, has been inspecting roofs for hail damage since 2006 when he started as a Catastrophe Adjuster with a major insurance carrier.
Dan will give you an honest assessment of the damages, if any, caused by the storm. We will let you know if you NEED a new roof or if you need a repair. If there is no damage to the roof we will let you know as well, avoiding the headache of having an insurance claim that is below your deductible. We recommend having Revival Roofing come inspect your property before you call your insurance carrier. You want to make sure that there is warranted damage to your home and that you NEED a new roof before you make the claim.
If the hail has caused damage that needs immediate attention, i.e. broken vents, missing shingles, or penetrations through the roof, Revival Roofing will make temporary repairs to stop any further damage to the interior of the home.
